Getting your dog to use it
  1. Measure before you orderFloor to the top of the mattress, not the frame. That single number decides whether you want three steps, four or five.
  2. Set it flush to the bedPush the back of the unit against the bed frame so the top tread meets the mattress edge. No gap for a paw to find.
  3. Teach it going up firstTreats on each tread. Up is the easy direction and it builds the route. Coming down comes later, and it's the part worth practicing.

Covers manufacturing faults — a weld, a hinge, a frame that fails in normal use, a seam or a zip that goes. We repair it, send the part, or replace the piece.

It doesn't cover chewing, scratching, damage from misuse, or anything loaded past its stated weight limit. Nor does it cover normal wear: sisal fraying is the post doing its job, and carpet treads mat down with use.

Three steps don't reach a bed

Most pet steps stop at sofa height. On a 23-inch bed that leaves a final lunge from the top tread - the exact movement the steps were supposed to replace. Aspen goes up to five.

About Aspen Foam Dog Steps for Bed, 3 to 5 Steps up to 23.6" Tall

Most dog steps are built for a couch. A bed is a different problem. A modern mattress on a frame sits around 25 inches off the floor, and three steps do not reach it, so the dog makes a final lunge from the top tread, which is the exact movement the steps were meant to prevent. Aspen is a set of foam dog steps for bed height, and it goes to five steps.

The five-step stands 23.6 inches tall, which clears a high bed without the last jump. The treads are pale bouclé over high-density foam, so a paw finds grip instead of sliding, and the sides are a darker fabric that hides the marks a light pet piece picks up beside a bed.

The cover unzips entirely and goes in the machine. That is the difference between owning this for five years and replacing it in eighteen months.

Why Aspen works for short-legged and senior dogs

  • 3, 4 or 5 steps15.7, 19.7 or 23.6 inches tall, so there is a height for a low bed and a high one.
  • 23.6-inch top treadsits just under a high mattress; the dog steps across, not up.
  • High-density foam corea paw stays planted, and there is no frame to hit if he misses.
  • Bouclé non-slip treadsgrip without the hard edge of wooden steps.
  • Removable, machine-washable coverzips off whole.
  • 15.7 inches wideenough tread for a corgi or a dachshund to turn on.
  • 8.5 lb shipped, no assemblyslides under the bed when it is not needed.

Will it reach your bed?

Measure floor to the top of the mattress. Three steps suits around 15 inches, four around 19, five around 23; the top tread should sit just under the mattress, not level with it. Aspen is for small and medium dogs up to about 40 lb, so dachshunds, corgis, small terriers and older cats. It is not for a Labrador. On a 28-inch bed there is still a step up at the top, which is fine for a dog with working back legs but not for one with real hip trouble; for very high beds a ramp is the better answer.

Questions about dog steps for bed

How do I choose between 3, 4 and 5 steps?

Measure floor to the top of your mattress. Three steps suits about 15 inches, four about 19, five about 23. Pick the one that lands just under your mattress height.

How big a dog can use it?

Small and medium, roughly up to 40 lb. Dachshunds, corgis, small terriers, older cats. It is a foam piece, not a staircase.

Does the cover wash?

Yes. It unzips entirely; machine wash cold and air dry. The foam core stays out of the machine.

Is there any assembly, and does it slide?

No assembly; it arrives ready to use. The base grips, and it is tall enough that it wants to stand against the bed frame. Push the back flush to the bed and it stays put.
