It doesn't cover chewing, scratching, damage from misuse, or anything loaded past its stated weight limit. Nor does it cover normal wear: sisal fraying is the post doing its job, and carpet treads mat down with use.

Thirty-nine inches is the width at which a litter box enclosure stops being a box with a cat hole and starts being a piece of furniture: a low sideboard in natural wood that happens to have a litter tray inside it.
The extra width buys two things. Room for two trays side by side, which is what a two-cat household actually needs, or room for one tray with space for a big cat to turn around rather than back out. And the doorway has a litter mat built into the threshold, so the worst of the tracking is caught before it reaches your floor.
