Width × depth × height. Inside is the space your dog actually has.

From the maker's spec sheet. The maker doesn't publish inside space for the Large; it sits between the Medium and the Extra large. With our rule (dog lying on his side, nose to base of tail, plus six inches), the Medium suits a dog up to about 23 in long and the Extra large up to about 34 in.

Warranty
Frames & hardware
5 years from delivery
Covers, foam & fabric
1 year from delivery

Covers manufacturing faults — a weld, a hinge, a frame that fails in normal use, a seam or a zip that goes. We repair it, send the part, or replace the piece.

It doesn't cover chewing, scratching, damage from misuse, or anything loaded past its stated weight limit. Nor does it cover normal wear: sisal fraying is the post doing its job, and carpet treads mat down with use.

For the dog who tests a crate

Some dogs test a crate and some dogs dismantle one. If yours leans on the door or has already bent a folding wire crate, the answer is not a thicker version of the same thing.

Setting it up

Choose the size by the dog and the room.

  1. 1

Measure before you choose a size

  2. 2

It is heavy and solid, so put it together in the room it is going to stay in.

About Crag Large Dog Crate Furniture, Heavy-Duty 10 mm Welded Steel

Some dogs test a crate and some dogs dismantle one. If yours leans on the door, chews the bars or has already bent a folding wire crate out of shape, a thicker version of the same thing will not help. Most large dog crate furniture is a wire cage inside a wooden box, and a strong dog knows it.

Crag is welded from 10 mm round steel tube rather than thin flat wire. Round section does not develop the sharp edge that a chewed flat bar does, and the wall thickness is what stops a big dog flexing a door out of its frame. There are three doors, and each one closes on its own sliding bolt rather than a single spring clip.

On top it is a solid wood plank, so it still works as a console against a living room wall with a lamp and books on it. Inside, a steel grid plate sits over a removable tray: the dog stands on the grid, the mess goes in the tray, and nothing pools where he lies.

Why Crag works for large dogs who have broken a crate

  • 10 mm welded round steel tubethe frame does not flex when a 90 lb dog leans on the door, and a chewed round bar does not turn into a blade.
  • A sliding bolt on every doornothing to nose open; the bolt has to slide before the door moves.
  • Three doorsopen whichever one the room allows, so it works against a wall or in a corner.
  • Solid wood topreads as a console in the living room, holds a lamp and whatever else lands on it.
  • Steel grid over a removable trayaccidents drain away from where he lies, and the tray slides out on its own.
  • Links side by sidetwo crates make one long console for a two-dog house.
  • Three sizesMedium, Large and Extra Large, so the crate fits the dog instead of the dog fitting the crate.

Which size, and will it fit the room?

Measure your dog lying on his side from nose to base of tail and add about six inches so he can turn around. Then measure the wall it will stand against. Take the larger of the two. Crag is the right crate for a dog who has challenged a wire crate; if your dog has never tested one, Hollis is the lighter, prettier end-table version. It is not the answer for a dog with real separation anxiety, who needs a behaviorist as well as a stronger crate.

Questions about large dog crate furniture

What size dog fits, and which size should I order?

Measure your dog lying on his side, nose to base of tail, and add about six inches so he can turn around. Then measure the wall space it has to live in. Order the larger of the two. Crag comes in Medium, Large and Extra Large.

Is it chew proof?

It will beat a folding wire crate comfortably. The 10 mm round steel tube does not develop the sharp edge a chewed flat bar does, and the wall thickness stops a big dog flexing a door out of its frame. It is not an aluminum escape-proof kennel, and no furniture crate is.

Can two dogs share it?

Two Crag crates link side by side into one long console, which is how most two-dog households end up using them. One dog per crate, one piece of furniture against the wall.

Can I take the grid plate out, and how do I clean it?

Yes. The grid lifts out and the tray slides out separately, so you can run it grid-over-tray or tray only with a mattress on top. The mess collects in the tray, so cleaning is pulling the tray and wiping it down.

How long does it take to put together?

The frame arrives welded rather than flat-packed as loose wire, so there is no cage to clip together. If you want the step-by-step before you order, ask us and we'll send the assembly sheet.

How does shipping work, and what if it's the wrong size?

Free tracked shipping on every US order. Orders ship within 1–3 business days and arrive 6–15 business days door to door. US only. Send it back within 30 days of delivery, unused and in its original packaging, for a refund. If it arrives damaged or isn't what you ordered, we cover the return shipping.
